Toledo Museum of Art symposium, July 21

On July 21, 2023 the Toledo Museum of Art will be hosting a one-day Symposium Expanding Horizons: New Approaches in Display and Interpretation that will bring together representatives from various US-Museums that have re-envisioned or are re-envisioning the presentations of their collections to tell more just and inclusive histories.

Museums worldwide are rethinking the ways in which they present and interpret their collections. The symposium will explore how museums are reimagining their collection displays and interpretation. Speakers from various U.S. art museums, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum, and the North Carolina Museum of Art, among others, will present on their institutions’ reinstallation projects and provide attendees with an opportunity to gauge current ideas and approaches to presenting art museum collections.

This symposium will be part of the programming around TMA’s reimagined display and interpretation of its American art collection but will also look towards TMA’s own reinstallation of its entire collection planned for 2027.
