Wednesday presentation about a monastery museum in India

Join us Wednesday (January 27) for a presentation by Rebecca Bloom, PhD candidate, Asian Languages and Cultures.  She will present “Where the Sacred and the Secular Meet:  The Politics of Display at a Monastery Museum in Ladakh, India.”  Rebecca will share her fieldwork from a Tibetan Buddhist monastery  and the implications of wielding cultural preservation in response to tourism and modernization. The museum offers a case study and powerful resolution for the understanding of sacred art and local heritage amidst regional change.

12:00 pm at UM Museum of Art Multi-Purupse Room
