The Summer Institute in Museum Studies (Carleton University, Ottawa)
The Summer Institute in Museum Studies will take place at Carleton University in Ottawa from July 29- August 2 and will include four site visits to major museums in the city, such as the National Gallery of Art, the Canadian Museum of History, the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology, the War Museum. It offers an excellent opportunity to explore pressing issues in the field of museology for established museum practitioners and those wishing to enter the field alike.
The Summer Institute in Museum Studies is a week-long concentrated course designed to provide practicing and aspiring professionals with an opportunity for dialogue and reflection. Offered by Carleton’s Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art, and Culture, this non-credit program will focus on current issues in museum work, mainly but not exclusively in Canada. Participants will have the opportunity to experience lectures, discussions, readings, and museum and guided gallery visits that identify dilemmas and directions for those who work in this field and those that aspire to. Participants will also contribute a self-reflexive presentation at the end of the workshop.
The cost is $1500 CAD and limited on-campus housing is available (at an additional cost) on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is now open.
