Alumni kudos!

Kudos to… Helen Dixon (MSP07), along with ECU Department of Anthropology colleagues Ryan Schacht, Cindy Grace-McCaskey, Eric Bailey, and Charlie Ewen, have been awarded an NSF in Cultural Anthropology for the project “Gone and Nearly Forgotten: Reclaiming African American Heritage in Rural Southern Cemeteries.” Dr. Dixon will be in charge of the archival and public history components of the project and will complete this work in collaboration with undergraduate and graduate public history students at ECU.  This is the same team that was awarded an NEH award June 1, 2021 – May 31, 2024: “Cemeteries as More than Final Resting Places: How the History of Exclusion and Racism in the US Continues to Haunt African-Americans after Death.”
