Youth Volunteer Coordinator – Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History (Washington, DC)
The Office of Education and Outreach at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History seeks a full-time contractor to provide coordination, administrative, and logistical services in support of the implementation of programming for Washington, D.C.-area high school youth. The contractor will serve as the Youth Volunteer Coordinator for the Youth Programs team in the Office of Education and Outreach, coordinating and implementing the Q?Crew teen volunteer program, community engagement outreach, and assisting in the implementation of the training curriculum and continuing education in conjunction with NMNH educators.
The Q?Crew Teen Volunteer Program is a highly competitive leadership program for high school students in the greater DC metropolitan area. The program uses near-peer mentorship and authentic learning contexts to teach science communication skills, workplace readiness, and the value of contributing to the community. Q?Crew Volunteers act as passionate and enthusiastic facilitators within Q?rius, The Coralyn W. Whitney Science Education Center, which fosters hands-on opportunities for visitors to better understand the role of research and collections in Natural History science. Q?Crew volunteers encourage visitor exploration of natural history science and culture with fun, experimental and creative activities, and a collection of 6,000 objects.
