Public programs facilitate dialogue between academics and professionals, informing scholarship and strengthening practice.

Multiple day conferences, year-long colloquia, individual lectures, “conversations” between individuals, hands-on workshops, and Museums at Noon talks featuring our graduate students all contribute to the remarkable richness of MSP offerings.

Video recordings of some MSP lectures are archived for viewing in our Media Gallery.

Digital Aspirations: The Design of an Online Exhibit at a Site of Conscience in Nicaragua

Sites of conscience serve the public by raising awareness about contemporary issues such as transnational migrations, racism, and gender inequalities. Such is the case for the Institute of History of Nicaragua and Central America (IHNCA). In this talk, I will share my experience designing the concept of a digital exhibit at IHNCA, and how this project feeds into larger conversations about the contributions of digital technologies to the museum mission. I argue that the way museum professionals talk about digital technologies reveal their aspirations for what a museum can be. However, such aspirations do not always match the affordances of digital technologies.
