SUMMARY:Digital Aspirations: The Design of an Online Exhibit at a Site of Conscience in Nicaragua
DESCRIPTION:Presentation by Allan Martell\, PhD candidate\, Information \nFriday\, December 8 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm\, UM Museum of Art auditorium \n  \nDigital Aspirations: The Design of an Online Exhibit at a Site of Conscience in Nicaragua \nSites of conscience serve the public by raising awareness about contemporary issues such as transnational migrations\, racism\, and gender inequalities. Such is the case for the Institute of History of Nicaragua and Central America (IHNCA). In this talk\, I will share my experience designing the concept of a digital exhibit at IHNCA\, and how this project feeds into larger conversations about the contributions of digital technologies to the museum mission. I argue that the way museum professionals talk about digital technologies reveal their aspirations for what a museum can be.
