SUMMARY:Access and the Archive: The Role of Documents Projects in a Digital Age
DESCRIPTION:This brown bag will examine my practicum experience working with the Documents Project at the International Center for Art of the Americas (ICAA) at the Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston. The ICAA is the research institute arm of the Latin American Art Curatorial Department\, headed by the renowned Latin American Art curator\, Marí Carmen Ramírez\, and assisted in direction by María C Gaztambide\, who directs the DocsProject. Its mission is to promote research of the diverse artistic production of Latin American and Latino artists from Mexico\, Central and South America\, the Caribbean\, and the United States\, in order to educate audiences about the field of Latin American art and to open new avenues of intercultural exchange and dialogue\, inside and outside the museum. This presentation will discuss the work of researchers within the documents project\, from the day-to-day minutiae to the steps in long-term strategic planning. Ultimately\, this presentation seeks to encourage dialogue on the future and importance of digital documents projects as critical co-curricular spaces within research museums. \n  \nPresented by Catalina Esguerra – MA\, PhD Candidate\, Romance Languages & Literatures \nNovember 18 at 12:00 pm in UM Museum of Art Multi-Purpose Room (125) \nBrownBag_Esguerra
