Collections Manager – Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History (Detroit)

Position Overview:
As a vital member of the Charles H. Wright Museum’s Curatorial Department, the Collections Manager is responsible for the oversight of collections management including policy development and maintenance; artifact collections storage, safety, and access; cataloging, documentation, deaccessioning, and disposal. The Collections Manager oversees the coordination of all loans and exhibitions, including installation and de-installation, submits insurance information to the Director of Exhibitions and Collections, manages object movement, including packing, crating, and shipping. The Collections Manager also assesses needed conservation treatment and implements best practices in collection preservation.

Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Records and Objects Management, Art, Art History, History, Anthropology, Museum Studies, or other related field required; Master’s degree preferred
• Three to five years of experience working as a Collections Manager in a museum or gallery setting
