Public programs facilitate dialogue between academics and professionals, informing scholarship and strengthening practice.

Multiple day conferences, year-long colloquia, individual lectures, “conversations” between individuals, hands-on workshops, and “brown bag” talks featuring our graduate students all contribute to the remarkable richness of MSP offerings.

Video recordings of many MSP lectures are archived for viewing in our Media Gallery.

Taking a Look in the Mirror: Transformative Change within Museums

October 4, 2016 @ 6:30 pm

Location:  University of Michigan Museum of Art, Helmut Stern Auditorium

Museums do not exist in a vacuum. The external environment around museums is in a state of constant change. Yet, it seems as though museums continue to approach diversity and inclusion work through community outreach and programs. It is time for museums to transform. We must look internally at organizational culture and traditional work practices in order to spark transformative change across the field. This talk focuses on concepts and practices to shift work culture to help museums evolve into inclusive institutions.

Chris Taylor blends passion for history, diversity, and inclusion work in his job as the Chief Inclusion Officer at the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS). As part of the Executive Leadership Team of the organization, he is responsible for creating and implementing a strategic vision to create an inclusive work culture and help staff develop inclusive work practices. In addition, he works to build healthy, sustainable relationships with the many diverse communities of Minnesota.
